Stephen Jones' Eagle Leadership Project

My Eagle Scout project involved maintenance work for the Gold Star Mothers Monument at Lake Isle in Eastchester, New York. The Gold Star Mothers Monument honors mothers who lost sons and daughters in military service. The monument as well as other Gold Star Mothers Monuments are meaningful landmarks that recognize the sacrifice of Gold Star families and maintaining it shows respect for their service. I wanted to contribute to preserving a significant memorial in my community while leading a hands-on restoration that creates clear, lasting benefits. I believe my project helped to preserve the dignity and appearance of an important tribute.

My Troop cleaned and pressure washed the stone brick flooring that surrounds the monument. The process helped maintain the appearance of the site, the walkway safer and it also helped to preserve the condition bricks.

My project also included the refurbishment of the “LT. COL SAM DIRENZO V.F.W. POST 2285” sign. I unbolted the sign from its supporting posts, removed the old paint and repainted the sign as well as the supporting posts.
